In the context of a project for a major French public institution, Motherbase was used to identify and map out every stake holder involved in water processing and distribution in France.
Initially, Motherbase contained very few companies concerned with this topic. Working with our client’s team, we identified the 40 most important “catalysts”, or the “nodes” of this ecosystem: large corporate companies, incubators, accelerators, business clusters, public institutions, etc… We fed these 40 catalysts into Motherbase, and two weeks later, our algorithms had identified 1800 organisations (startups, small businesses, not-for-profits, etc…) connected to the original 40.
We were able to map out these organizations on a social graph, to see which ones were connected to the most catalysts, which ones were isolated, what were the key technologies, etc… This analysis gave our client the understanding they lacked of their eco-system, and from there they were able to draw up a clear roadmap for the second phase of the project.
